Women’s Golf Finishes Tied for Eighth at Bobcat Desert Classic

GOODYEAR, ARIZ - William and Mary's women's golf team put forth another outstanding effort on Wednesday in the final round of the Bobcat Desert Classic to move up into a tie for eighth in the 20-team field. Sacramento State won in a team playoff over Cal Poly after both teams posted a 54-hole score of 915, while Mary Kate Morgan of Gonzaga won in an individual playoff over Tara Lambright of North Texas.

The Tribe's final round score of 311 came as a result of every golfer on the team shooting 79 or better for the second time in three days, the only two times in school history that has happened. Sacramento State was the only team to match or better the Tribe in that aspect, as they didn't have any scores worse than 79 in the three-day tournament.

Senior captain Melissa DePuy (Naples, Fla.) closed her tournament by shooting 78 and junior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) fired a 77, as both tied for 22nd overall at +17. Junior Marissa Sprick (Windermere, Fla.) and freshman Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) also ended the tournament tied, finishing with three other players at 37th after posting a matching pair of 79's in the final round. Freshman Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) tied Oldenkamp for the team's low-round of the day, shooting 77 to finish in a tie for 64th.

William and Mary returns to Williamsburg to host the W&M Women's Invitational in ten days, March 24-25 at Ford's Colony.
