Tribe Earns 11 USAG Collegiate All-America Honors
W&M’s Locke Earns Three USAG Collegiate All-American Honors

Wiliamsburg, Va. - One day removed from capturing gold in the team portion of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships, the medals kept coming for the College of William and Mary’s men’s gymnastics squad, as nine individuals took home a total of 11 Collegiate All-American honors during the individual event championship portion of the USAG Collegiate Championships held Sunday afternoon in Kaplan Arena.
The top eight individual scores from yesterday’s team competition advanced to the individual event finals, with the top six earning the designation as a USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-America.
The College was led on the afternoon by David Locke (Natick, Mass.), who claimed gold on the vault event and earned a total of three USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-American honors. Locke scored a 8.40 to win the vault, and finished second on the floor exercise with a mark of 9.05. His final honor came on the high bar, where he finished fifth overall with a mark of 8.10.
Junior Andrew Hunt (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) was the only other Tribe gymnast to earn an individual championship, as won the parallel bar event for the second straight season. His score of 8.70 was over a half-point higher than the next closest individual on the event and he now has earned three career USAG Collegiate All-America certificates.
Freshman Derek Gygax (Stevensville, Md.) and Richard Pearson (Baton Rouge, La.) represented the College on the pommel horse, with Gygax earning a silver finish with a mark of 8.25 and Pearson placing sixth (7.45).
On the rings, Tribe junior Aaron Ingram (Holden, Mass.) placed fifth overall, with a mark of 8.50, while senior Chuck Portz (Humble, Texas) placed seventh (8.40). Ingram now has earned three USAG Collegiate All-America honors in his career.
Senior Gustav Lindquist (Old Greenwich, Conn.) repeated as a collegiate all-America on the vault, finish tied for sixth with a score of 8.850 and will end his career having earned a total of three USAG Collegiate All-America honors.
Other Tribe gymnasts earning the USAG Collegiate All-America designation were senior Dave Ridings (Parkton, Md.),who finished third on the parallel bars (8.05) and sophomore Sloan Crawford (Burlington, Ontario, Canada), who turned in a fifth-place on floor exercise (8.65).
The College’s next action will come next weekend, as it will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. and compete for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship. Temple University is the host for the event, which will begin with the team competition on Saturday (3/31).
