Women’s Golf Finishes 12th at the W&M Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary's women's golf team cut 11 strokes between rounds and improved to 12th today in the final round of the W&M Invitational. Western Michigan held onto its lead from the first round, though just barely, and won the team title with 617 strokes. Methodist University improved an incredible 33 strokes between rounds to shoot 293 and moved into second with 619 strokes. WMU's Laura Bravaird was the individual titlist, shooting 72-74 in the tournament to win by four strokes.

The Tribe's big improvement was led by junior Marissa Sprick (Windermere, Fla.), who cut six strokes to finish with 76 and move into a tie for 22nd at +14. Freshman Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) also shot in the 70's, turning in a card of 77 to move into a tie for 30th and post a seven-shot improvement. Classmate Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) tied for 50th with a two-day total of 166. Junior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) tied for 69th at 171, and senior captain Melissa DePuy (Naples, Fla.) had a three-stroke improvement between rounds and finished in a tie for 75th.

Competing as individuals, junior Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) and freshman Robyn English (Warwick, R.I.) shot rounds of 81 and 80 to finish tied for 30th and for 38th, respectively. Sophomore Ellie Costello (Wil-mette, Ill.) had a two-shot improvement in today's round, and finished out the Tribe effort in 91st.

William and Mary returns to action in two weeks at the Illini Spring Classic, April 6-7 in Urbana, Illinois.
