Men’s Golf Tied for Eighth at W&M Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG - The William and Mary men’s golf team went into the clubhouse at the end of the first day of the W&M Invitational tied for eighth in the 21-team field. Campbell University opened an eight-stroke lead on the field by shooting a five-under par 279, and also boasts the individual leader in Fredric Sundberg, who shot 67 (-4).

The Tribe was led in the round by sophomore Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.), who is tied for ninth overall with an even-par 71. Classmate Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) tied for 26th after shooting 74, and junior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) is tied for 57th with a score of 77. Senior captain Matt Brantingham (Richmond, Va.) carded 78 in the round to stand tied for 71st, and junior Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) is one shot back, tied for 78th.

William and Mary also had five individuals competing in the tournament. Senior Ryan Price (Chantilly, Va.) is tied for 12th after shooting 72 (+1) in the round. Freshman Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) shot 76, and is tied for 47th. Freshman Andy Roach (Vienna, Va.) shot 83, junior Jay Sutton (Edgewood, Ky.) carded 84, and junior Joel St. Laurent (Nashua, N.H.) shot 86.

The Invitational concludes with one round tomorrow on the River Course at Kingsmill.
