Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at W&M Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG - The William and Mary men’s golf team played well on a difficult course today, finishes ninth in the final round of the W&M Invitational. Campbell won the team title by three strokes over St. John’s, and the Camels’ Fredric Sundberg was the individual medalist at five-under (137). After playing the Plantation course at Kingsmill yesterday, the field moved over to the River Course today, holding the same par (71 strokes) but adding four hundred yards of length.

Sophomore Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) led the Tribe in the tournament, shooting 74 today to finish in a tie for 11th at 3-over (145). Classmate Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) was second for the team, matching his first-round 74 with another one to finish tied for 20th at six-over. Juniors Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) and Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) tied for 71st after shooting 80 and 78, respectively, and senior captain Matt Brantingham (Richmond, Va.) rounded out the varsity squad in a tie for 84th with 160 total strokes.

Competing as individuals were five linksmen for the Green and Gold. Senior Ryan Price (Chantilly, Va.) shot 76 today to finish tied for 20th, and freshman Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) tied for 51st after carding 77. Freshman Andy Roach (Vienna, Va.) improved two strokes between rounds, and junior Jay Sutton (Edgewood, Ky.) cut a stroke of his own. Junior Joel St. Laurent (Nashua, N.H.) registered the biggest improvement on the day, dropping four strokes from his first round effort.

The Tribe returns to action with only three day’s rest, travelling to Grasonville, Maryland to take part in the Lacrosse Homes Collegiate from March 31-April 1.
