Tribe Places Seventh at ECAC Championship

Ithaca, N.Y. - ITHACA, N.Y. (3/31/07) – Towson used strong performances on vault and floor to win its third-straight ECAC Championship Saturday afternoon at Cornell, easily surpassing the field with a total score of 193.650. William and Mary placed seventh in the nine-team field with a final mark of 188.250.

Senior Christina Padilla (Sterling, Va.) highlighted the afternoon for the Tribe, as the former conference champion on vault tied for second place overall in the event (9.800) to earn her second First-Team All-ECAC designation.

Junior Tricia Long (Humble, Texas) earned her third consecutive all-conference honor in the all-around, tallying a total of 37.550 to tie for seventh place overall and earn second-team status. Long was also a First-Team All-ECAC finisher on floor, tying for sixth place with a 9.675.

Junior Stevie Waldman (Downingtown, Pa.), a first-teamer on bars in 2006, earned her second-career All-ECAC award, taking second-team honors on beam with a score of 9.650. Freshman Ali Medeiros (Hudson, Ohio) point an exclamation point on a terrific rookie season by tying Waldman for the team lead on beam to also earn Second-Team All-ECAC honors.

Freshman Stephanie Bevan (Bridgewater, N.J.) also continued her strong initial season with a 9.525 on beam, a 9.400 on vault and a 9.425 on floor in her first conference championship.

Long was once again the team’s top finisher on floor, posting a 9.675. Waldman turned in a solid 9.550 on floor, and sophomore Becca Bacharach (Lancaster, Pa.) scored a 9.450.

Sarah Jacobson (Brecksville, Ohio) followed Padilla on vault with a 9.550, and Medeiros was also on the mark with a 9.525.

Padilla was also the team’s top scorer on bars, though it was modest 9.475 that led the group.

Towson's Decelia Willacy finished first in the all-around, one of three Tigers in the top-five, with a 38.825 score. Christina Ghani, the ECAC all-around champion in 2005 and 2006, led the Tigers’ performance on vault with a 9.90 score to win the ECAC vault title for the second year in a row. On the floor exercise, the Tigers clinched the championship as they captured the top three places.
