Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at CAA Championships

HOT SPRINGS, VA - In a third round that proved treacherous to every player, William and Mary played well enough to hold serve and finish fifth at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Sunday. UNC Wilmington cruised to a 17-stroke victory for its first women’s golf title, and the Seahawks’ Ashley Tait claimed the individual medal and Most Outstanding Performer honors with a 6-over 222.

Junior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) continued as the Tribe’s top golfer, finishing tied for 14th with a score of 237. Freshman Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) cut two strokes from her second round score to shoot 81 and finish tied for 18th at +25. Senior captain Melissa DePuy (Naples, Fla.) was the Tribe’s low shooter today, carding 79 to improve to a tie for 21st at 26-over. Junior Marissa Sprick (Windermere, Fla.) placed in the top 25 for the second straight year, finishing tied for 25th. Freshman Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) rounded out the team in 40th place, cutting three strokes from her second round score to shoot 82.

The team will now await the selections for the NCAA Regional qualifiers. If selected, the Tribe would play at one of three national sites on May 10-12. The selections will be announced Monday, April 30, at 4 p.m. EST on ncaasports.com.
