Abby Lemon Qualifies for ECAC Championships

FAIRFAX, VA - William and Mary’s women’s track team pursued qualifying marks for next weekend’s ECAC Championships at the Mason Last Chance Invitational on Saturday, notching one such performance and also turning an all-time top-10 performance.

Sophomore Abby Lemon (Berryville, Va.) threw the hammer 159’ 11” to take third and re-qualify for the ECAC Championships. Junior Allie Lewis (Roanoke, Va.) was just off the qualifying standard in the 800m run, but did manage to run the ninth-fastest 800m in school history with a personal-best time of 2:12.36.

Sophomore Katie Endres (Sterling, Va.) won the 3,000m race in 10:37.46, her second win of the season after taking top honors in the 3,000m at the Tribe Invitational in March. Senior Bonnie Meekins (Herndon, Va.) won the javelin competition with a throw of 122’ 6”. Meekins also turned in a trio of fifth-place finishes, running 15.08 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles, 1:05.51 in her first-ever 400m hurdles, and jumping past 18’ 3.25” in the long jump.

Freshman Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.), the 2007 CAA Pole Vault Champion, won again today, vaulting 11’ 5.75” to take the laurels. Juniors Erin Gnass (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Nicole Bost (Mechanicsville, Va.) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault, each clearing 10 feet.

Sophomore Kelsey Snowden (Fairfax Station, Va.) was runner-up in the 1,500m, running a season-fast 4:51.50. Senior Jen Showker (Harrisonburg, Va.), already qualified to the ECAC Championships, was fourth in the discus with a throw of 131’ 7”.

William and Mary travels to the ECAC Championships in Princeton, New Jersey next weekend, May 11-13.
