Five from William and Mary Are All-East

PRINCETON, NJ - With four events in the books, William and Mary’s men’s track team stands in third place with 20 points at the IC4A Championships at Princeton. Liberty is atop the field of 18 with 28 points at the end of the first of three days. Five of W&M’s distance corps earned All-East honors Friday night, denoting a top-eight finish in their event.

First Day Results

Senior Keith Bechtol (Alexandria, Va.) set a life-time best in the 5,000m run, running 14:08.76 for third place. The time qualifies him for the NCAA Regional, a spot he already earned by winning the CAA title at 5,000m three weeks ago. Also earning All-East honors in the 5,000m was junior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.), who took fifth in 14:13.12.

Junior Anthony Arena (Manassas, Va.) placed third in the 3,000m steeplechase, running an NCAA-qualifying 9:02.54. Senior Joel Parker (Portsmouth, Va.) also qualified for the NCAA Regional, running 9:05.31 to place sixth and earn his first All-East honor on the track. Junior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) finished the 10,000m run in 31:21.99, good for eighth place and All-East designations.

The IC4A Championships continue tomorrow and Sunday.
