Tribe Tied for Fifth After First Day of ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, NJ - With three events in the books, William and Mary’s women’s track team stands tied for fifth with eight points at the ECAC Championships at Princeton. The host Tigers are atop the field of 14 with 23 points at the end of the first of three days.

Junior Emily Gousen (Arlington, Va.) earned the Tribe’s only All-East designation of the evening, doing so in life-time best fashion. Her time of 16:58.90 in the 5,000m placed her second in the field of 20, only two seconds off of championship pace. It was Gousen’s first sub-17 minute 5,000m.

Senior Bonnie Meekins (Herndon, Va.) is fifth in the heptathlon after four events with a personal-best first-day score of 3,154 points. By comparison, she had 3,102 points at the end of the first day at the CAA Championships, before finishing with a personal-best 5,192 points. Meekins was the top heptathlete in the high jump, clearing an NCAA Regional-qualifying 5’ 8.75”. She also took fourth in the shot put, recording a put of 36’ 4”.

The ECAC Championships continue tomorrow and Sunday.
