Tribe Competes on Day Two of NCAA East Regional

GAINESVILLE, FLA - William and Mary’s women’s track team competed in the pole vault and the 3,000m steeplechase Saturday at the NCAA East Regional. Individuals who finish in the top five of their events earn an automatic bid to the NCAA meet, while those who finish in the top-12 are eligible for an at-large bid.

Senior Kate Willever (Pennington, N.J.) had her season draw to a close in the 3,000m steeplechase, running 11:25.62. The CAA Champion in the event, Willever ran a career-best time of 11:06.82 in April at the Lou Onesty Invitational.

Freshman Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.) tied for 18th in the pole vault after clearing 12’ on her third attempt. Nine other athletes of the 19 who made the initial height of 12’ failed to achieve the next height, but finished ahead of Kazuba by clearing the bar on their first or second try. The height Kazuba was attempting, 12’ 6”, is fully 4.5 inches above the career-best she set in winning the CAA title.

Senior heptathlete Bonnie Meekins (Herndon, Va.) will learn whether or not her school-record mark of 5,457 points is good enough to earn an invitation to the NCAA Championships when the declaration lists are released on Wednesday, May 30.
