06/07/07 12:38PM
WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary senior Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, Pa.) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team today, the first such award of her career.
Bishop won the CAA 5,000m championship in April, her third CAA track title after winning the 1,500m run each of her first two years. At the 2007 Colonial Relays, Bishop ran 16:55.09 in the 5,000m to win her first Relays title. In cross country, she led the Tribe to the CAA Championship with her runner-up performance, becoming only the seventh runner in school history to earn all-conference accolades all four years. She also led the team to its best-ever showing at the ECAC Championships, second, when she took fourth overall to earn All-East honors.
Bishop earned her bachelor of science degree in biology two weeks ago, completing her four years with a 3.71 GPA. She is one of two athletes in the history of the Colonial Athletic Association to earn four Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, earning a pair in both cross country and track and field. She earned All-Academic honors in 2005 from the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association after placing 12th at the Southeast Region Championships.
Bishop ranks fourth all-time at W&M in the mile (4:52.87), 3,000m run (9:31.25), and 5,000m run (16:18.49); fifth all-time in the 1,500m run (4:29.09); and 10th all-time in the 1,000m run (2:56.84). In her four years, William and Mary claimed four conference cross country titles, three conference track titles, and placed 23rd at the 2006 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Individually, she won three conference titles, earned nine All-CAA honors, six All-East accolades, one All-Southeast award, and was the 2003 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year in cross country.
