Bonnie Meekins 19th After First Day of NCAA Heptathlon

Sets Personal-Best Marks for Three Events, First-Day Total

SACRAMENTO, CALIF - William and Mary senior Bonnie Meekins (Herndon, Va.) is in 19th at the NCAA Championships after four events in the heptathlon on Thursday. The CAA and ECAC Champion set personal-best marks in the 100m hurdles, shot put, and 200m dash en route to setting another personal-best for point-total after the first day.

First Day Heptathlon Results

Meekins started the morning by running the 100m hurdles in 14.72 seconds, the fourth-best mark all-time at W&M and a personal-best by eight hundredths of a second. Despite clearing only 5’ 7.75” in the high jump, a signature event for her, Meekins was tied for 18th in the 25-athlete field after two events.

In the shot put, Meekins tied for 15th after putting the shot 37’ 0.25”, her first performance over 37 feet. She closed the day by timing 26.16 seconds in the 200m dash, a personal-best by six hundredths of a second. Her four-event score of 3,155 points is personal-best effort by a single point.

Meekins will look to move up the standings in tomorrow’s three events, traditionally her strongest: the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. The top eight heptathletes earn All-American honors.
