Tribe Alumni to Compete for Team USA at Pan-American Games

Ed Moran, Jacob Frey to Represent United States in Brazil

INDIANAPOLIS, IND - Two of William and Mary’s most accomplished young track and field alumni will compete for Team USA at the Pan-American Games July 22-29 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, USA Track and Field announced last week.

Tribe assistant coach Ed Moran ’03 was selected for the team in the 5,000m race, after taking fifth at the USAT&F National Championships last month. Moran has already met the automatic entry standard for both the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials and the Beijing Olympics, and will be making his Team USA debut. He is also automatically qualified for the Trials and Olympics in the 10,000m, and is provisionally qualified in the Marathon. He is ranked third in the U.S. at 5,000m and fourth at 10,000m this year according to Track and Field News, and is the only athlete in the top five of both events.

Also competing will be Jacob Frey ’04, who was selected in the Marathon. An automatic qualifier for the Marathon Trials, Frey ran a personal-best 2:17:37 at the Austin Marathon in February of 2006. Closer to home, Frey was the runner-up this year at the Colonial Half-Marathon, finishing in 1:06:32. During his career with the Tribe, Frey won CAA 5,000m titles in back-to-back years in 2002 and 2003, and was a three-time All-CAA and two-time All-Southeast Region honoree in cross country.
