Brent Paladino Wins New England Amateur at 8-Under

QUECHEE, VT - Junior golfer Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) earned another feather for his cap last week when he won the New England Amateur Championship with a two-round score of 136 (8-under). Paladino is the first golfer from Connecticut to win the event since J.J. Henry in 1998.

Paladino led wire-to-wire in the event, shooting 67 for a two-stroke lead after the first round, and posting a three-under 69 in the second round, which was held over two days due to rain. Finishing second was Frank Vana of Massachusetts, two strokes back.

Paladino is having another of his customarily outstanding summers in 2007. At the U.S. Amateur Public Links earlier this month, he upset defending champion Casey Watabu in the first round of match-play, 2 and 1, before falling in the second round. Next up for him will be U.S. Amateur qualifying, August 6 at Wampanoag Country Club.
