Hoxie Named PDL All-Eastern Conference

Williamsburg - Junior Tribe men’s soccer player Andrew Hoxie earned USL Premier Development League (PDL) All-Eastern Conference honors, the league announced on July 30. Hoxie was one of top 44 players from across the country that was selected to an all-conference squad from the 63-team PDL. Hoxie played for the Virginia Legacy.

Hoxie ranked among the PDL leaders in goals, points and shots. He ranked fifth in the league in goals with 14 and shots with 50, while ranking sixth in points with 29. The 6-4 striker led the Legacy to a 9-5-2 record in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The squad narrowly missed the playoffs, finishing third in the division.

Earlier during the PDL season, Hoxie earned the league’s Player of the Week accolade after scoring five goals in a pair of contests against the Northern Virginia Royals and the Ocean City Barons. He recorded a hat trick in the victory over the Royals, while tallying both Legacy goals in a 2-2 tie with Ocean City.

In 2006, Hoxie earned Second-Team All-CAA and NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region honors. The Newport News, Va., native led W&M in scoring with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. He ranked among the CAA’s best in goals (third), points (third) and shots (fifth). Hoxie garnered Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week honors on a pair of occasions during the 2006 season and became the first Tribe player to win multiple CAA Player of the Week honors in the same season. He garnered the league’s weekly accolade on a trio of occasions on Sept. 18, Oct. 9 and Oct. 23.

A quartet of Tribe players competed with Hoxie for the Legacy during the PDL season. Senior goalkeeper Brennan Wergley played in five contests and finished with a 1-1-1 record. He had a shutout and 11 saves on the season.

Senior midfielder Doug Ernst and sophomore midfielder Jeremy Harris also played for the Legacy in 2007. Ernst played in 11 contests and scored the game-winner in the Legacy’s 2-1 win over the Richmond Kickers Future on June 9. Harris started 13 of 15 games, finished with 1120 minutes played and tallied the game-winner in a 2-1 win over the Delaware Dynasty.

The Richmond Kickers Future featured a trio of Tribe players. Sophomore Roger Bothe spent 10 games in the defen-sive third for the Kickers, while sophomore Price Thomas and true freshman Ian Stowe manned the midfield. Stowe appeared in eight games, while Thomas ranked fifth on the team with five points on two goals and an assist in only seven games of action.

W&M will open the 2007 regular season at home against Elon on Sept. 1. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Al-bert-Daly Field.
