Brent Paladino Qualifies for U.S. Amateur with Win in Qualifier

WAMPANOAG, CONN - Junior Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) continued to build upon an impressive amateur career Monday by qualifying for his third consecutive U.S. Amateur. By winning the Wampanoag qualifier, Paladino became the first Tribe golfer to qualify for three U.S. Amateur tournaments during his collegiate career.

Paladino shot eight-under in the 36-hole qualifier to win by one stroke over Mu Hu of Florida. He led wire-to-wire, tying for the clubhouse lead after the first 18 with a score of 69, and tied the low-round of the day with a 67 on his second turn through the course.

Earlier this summer, Paladino played in his third-straight U.S. Amateur Public Links, upsetting defending champion Casey Watabu 2 and 1 in the first round of match play before falling in the second round. He also won the New England Amateur in July, the first Connecticut golfer to do so since 1998.

The 107th U.S. Amateur will be played at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, August 20-26.
