Katie Radloff Finishes Second in 100m at Speedo Junior Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS - William and Mary sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) took second in the 100m freestyle this evening at the Speedo Junior National Championships with her second Olympic Trials-qualifying swim of the day.

Radloff touched the wall in 56.92 seconds to claim the silver medal, a lifetime-best effort in a 50-meter pool and an Olympic Trials-qualifying effort. During the morning’s preliminaries, she swam 57.07 to qualify for the championship heat, a performance that stands as the first Trials-qualifying swim in the history of the W&M swimming program.

The Speedo Junior National Championships are run by USA Swimming, the national Olympic organizer. The Junior Nationals are open to any swimmer who meets posted time standards and will not turn 19 before the end of the championships. This year’s event is being held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, a facility that has hosted 11 U.S. Team Trials and 17 NCAA Championships.

Radloff will compete again tomorrow in the 200m freestyle, and Friday in the 50m freestyle.
