Katie Radloff Picks Up Second Olympic Trials Berth at Junior Nationals

Times 26.29 in 50m Free for Sixth Place

INDIANAPOLIS - William and Mary sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) earned her second Olympic Trials berth of the week Friday evening at the Speedo Junior National Championships, timing 26.29 seconds in the finals of the 50m freestyle.

Radloff’s time, an improvement of 12 hundredths of a second over her preliminary swim, was good for sixth place and is a full tenth of a second below the Trials cut. On Tuesday, she earned the first Trials berth in school history by timing 57.07 in the prelims of the 100m freestyle, before improving that mark to 56.92 seconds in a runner-up performance during the finals.

The Speedo Junior National Championships are run by USA Swimming, the national Olympic organizer. The Junior Nationals are open to any swimmer who meets posted time standards and will not turn 19 before the end of the championships. This year’s event is being held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, a facility that has hosted 11 U.S. Team Trials and 17 NCAA Championships.

Radloff and the Tribe will open their CAA title defense by hosting conference-foe Towson at 2 p.m. on October 13.
