Tribe Freshman Helps Lead U.S. U-19 Team to World Championship

Peterborough, Ontario - Incoming William and Mary freshman goalkeeper Emily Geary (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) recorded three saves in helping lead the United States U-19 National Team to an authoritative 18-3 win over archrival Australia in the International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championship final in London, Ontario Saturday.

Behind strong second-half goalkeeping from Geary, the U.S. shut out Australia in the final period and ran away with the easy victory.

Geary will enter the Tribe program in the fall semester.

Player of the Match Jordy Kirr led the gold-medal winning effort with a goal and five assists, while tournament scoring champion Josie Owen contributed five goals and an assist.

Team USA has not lost in U-19 competition since the 1995 championship game, a span that includes 18 games and three gold medal matches, all won under head coach Wendy Kridel.

Team USA (6-0) outscored its six opponents by a combined 108-24. The U.S. dominated possession Saturday by winning 17 of 23 draw controls and out-shooting Australia 34-9.

Owen finished as the tournament's leading scorer with 21 goals and six assists in six games, while Kirr dished a tournament-high 18 assists.
