TRIBE FOOTBALL GAME DAY HOME

Weekly Release For Richmond Game

The I-64 Trophy is on the line Saturday at UR Stadium, as William and Mary and Richmond meet for the 117th time. The Tribe owns a 59-52-5 advantage in the series, which began in 1898, but the Spiders have won three-straight in the rivalry for the first time since 1971-73.

Saturday's game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic starting at noon. In the Williamsburg area and Eastern Virginia, the game can be viewed on Cox Cabel Channel 35. The game will also be available on Direct TV Channel 629 throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Check local listing for availability in your area.

In terms of games played, the W&M-UR rivalry ranks fourth in the history of college football on the Division I or I-AA level, tying the Minnesota-Wisconsin series and trailing only Lafayette-Lehigh (142), Yale-Princeton (130) and Harvard-Yale (123).

W&M is 9-5 against Richmond since the two became league opponents in 1993, and the College is 19-8 against the Spiders under Jimmye Laycock.

W&M enters Saturday’s game having dropped three-straight, all against ranked opponents, including a 55-34 loss to James Madison in the Tribe’s home finale.

Richmond claimed the CAA Southern Division title last weekend with a 62-56 victory in five overtimes at Delaware, and the Spiders are the league’s hottest team having won five consecutive games since a 23-21 loss at Towson on Oct. 6.

Richmond can earn at least a share of the overall CAA title with a victory, and the Spiders would be the league’s outright champion and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Championship with a win and a Massachusetts loss at Hofstra on Saturday.
