Tribe Men’s Soccer Garners Regional Ranking

Williamsburg - On the heels of its season-opening victory over Elon, the William and Mary men’s soccer team earned the No. 9 ranking in the South Atlantic Region, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America released on Sept. 4. The Tribe was one of six CAA teams in the regional rankings along with No. 3 Towson, No. 4 VCU, No. 6 Old Dominion, No. 7 James Madison and No. 10 George Mason.

The College opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Elon on Sept. 1. Sophomore midfielder Jeremy Harris tallied his first collegiate goal in the 55th minute to propel the Tribe to victory. He chested down and punched in a lobbed pass from senior Doug Ernst for the game’s lone score. Ernst notched his 13th career assist after leading the CAA in helpers last season.

W&M returns to action against a pair of Big Ten foes at the Penn State Classic, Sept. 7-9, in University Park, Pa. The Tribe opens the Classic against the host Nittany Lions, who are 0-2 on the season, at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. It will mark the first time W&M has met PSU since the 2002 NCAA Tournament Round of 16 match won by the Nittany Lions, 1-0, in overtime. The Tribe will meet No. 22 Ohio State (1-0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 9, at noon. The Buckeyes up-set then-No. 12 West Virginia, 1-0, to open the season, before tying Syracuse, 0-0, to claim the Wolstein Classic title in Columbus.
