Emily Gousen, Tribe Finish Second at Lou Onesty

EARLYSVILLE, VA - Senior Emily Gousen (Arlington, Va.) and the William and Mary women’s cross country team picked right back up where they left off last November, powering to a second-place finish at the Lou Onesty Invitational this morning. The host Cavaliers won the eight-team event, 30-37, behind 2006 All-American Emily Harrison’s winning time of 17:16.5 on the five-kilometer course.

Gousen finished second behind Harrison, timing a personal-best 18:06.5. In her only five-kilometer race last fall, she ran 18:20.1 at the ECAC Championships. Sophomore Kayley Byrne (Oak Hill, Va.) was just outside of the top five, finishing sixth in 18:30 flat. Also finishing in the top-10 for the Green and Gold were senior Anna Parker (Charlotte, N.C.), eighth in 18:40.4, and sophomore Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.), 10th in 18:43.1. Senior Erin Prillaman (Midlothian, Va.) finished right behind Anderson in 11th with a time of 18:49.6 to round out the scoring five for W&M. Senior Abby Booker (Haddonfield, N.J.) and freshman Betsy Graney (Harper Woods, Mich.) were the Tribe’s displacers, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively.

W&M returns to action at the end of the month, hosting the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge on September 29 at Eastern State Hospital.
