SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - William and Mary junior Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) romped over the school record books Monday and Tuesday at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate as he led the Tribe to a ninth-place finish in the field of 13. East Carolina tipped Old Dominion for the team title by seven strokes, but Eric Onesi more than evened the score for the Monarchs with a score of 15-under, seven better than the second-place finisher.

Paladino finished fifth overall, after posting rounds of 69-67-74 (210, -6) on the par-72 course. His collegiate-best score of 67 (-5) in the second round is tied for the second-best round since 1965 at W&M behind Billy Musto’s 6-under 65 in 1982, and tied legend John McHenry’s 5-under effort at the 1986 State Championship as the best par-72 round in the modern era at W&M. Paladino’s 36-hole score of 136 (-8) shattered the previous record of 137 (-5), set by both Gary Barton and Tim Pemberton, and his 54-hole score of 210 (-6) is also a three-shot improvement on the old record of 213 (-3), set by Justin Ragognetti at the 2002 El Diablo Intercollegiate. Both his 36- and 54-hole scores automatically move to the top of the school charts for par-72 tournaments.
Finishing second for the Tribe in a tie for 25th was junior Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.), who shot 76-72-71 (219, +3) to move up greatly after the first round. Senior Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) finished tied for 52nd, after opening with 73-71 (E) after the first two rounds. His second-round 71 (-1) was the first under-par round of his collegiate career. Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) was fourth for the Tribe in a tie for 61st, closing with a round of 73 on Tuesday after opening with 77-80. Senior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) rounded out the Tribe’s effort in a tie for 68th after opening with 74-79 on Monday.
William and Mary returns to action on September 22-23 with the Sea Trail Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
