Tribe Set for the Villanova Classic This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary volleyball team will be in action again this weekend when it competes against Binghamton, Princeton, Liberty and Villanova at the Villanova Classic. On Friday, W&M (3-5) will take on the Bearcats (6-5) at 10 a.m. and the Tigers (2-2) at 5:30 p.m. The College will then square off against the Flames (5-4) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday before concluding the event versus the Wildcats (5-3) that evening at 7:30 p.m.

While the Tribe lost all three of its matches last weekend versus tough competition at the UC Irvine Invite, a number of W&M players performed well. Junior Molly Bohman was selected to the all-tournament team after averaging 2.00 kills per game, 1.20 digs per game and 0.60 blocks per game. Sophomore Jillian Brown also played well and averaged 3.62 kpg, while freshman Erin Skipper provided 3.22 kpg and 1.56 dpg.

As a team, the College ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association with 17.71 dpg, while it ranks third in kills (13.77 kpg) and assists (12.74 apg). Individually, freshman Cassie Crumal ranks second in the conference with 12.00 apg, while junior Jill Nowadly stands fifth with 4.16 dpg.

Binghamton has won four of its last five matches and currently has a 6-5 overall record. The Bearcats’ victories have come against Boston College, Canisius, St. Francis, Canisius, Youngstown State and Kent State. Kathleen Schauer leads the team with 2.88 kpg, while Jackie Kane is averaging 1.49 bpg.

Princeton has split its four matches this season, registering wins against Rider and Fordham and losses to Syracuse and Texas Tech. Parker Henritze and Lindsey Ensign are both averaging more than 4.0 kpg, while Bailey Robinson is dishing out 12.71 apg.

Liberty enters this weekend’s action with a 5-4 mark and has won its last two matches. Karyl Bacon paces the team with 3.16 kpg and 4.44 dpg.

Villanova won three of four matches last weekend at the UNC Classic and currently has a 5-3 record. Two of the Wildcats’ victories have come against CAA opponents, George Mason and Delaware. Alona Cherkez is averaging a team-best 4.79 kpg, while Kacy Sellers is tallying 3.76 kpg on .331 hitting. The Tribe will see a familiar face on the Wildcats’ bench, as former W&M standout Kate Woffindin is in her second season as an assistant coach with Villanova.
