W&M Falls to Princeton, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Playing in its second match of the day, the William and Mary volleyball team fell to Princeton, 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-19), at the Villanova Classic on Friday evening. Earlier in the day, the Tribe (4-6) defeated Binghamton, 3-0.

Freshman Erin Skipper totaled a team-high 11 kills, while sophomore Jillian Brown recorded seven put-aways. Sophomore Lindsey Pflugner tallied a team-best 15 digs.

Things looked good for the College early in the initial game, as it jumped out to an 11-7 lead following a kill by sophomore Bryana Carey. While the Green and Gold extended the margin to as many as six points, 16-10, the Tigers rallied back with a 13-3 run. Shortly thereafter, Princeton utilized a 6-0 spurt to close out the game.

The Tigers’ momentum from the first set carried over into the second frame as it took a 9-4 lead. W&M answered, however, and gradually narrowed the margin to just one, 15-14, after a Princeton attack error. PU did not relinquish the lead, though, as it earned the six-point win. Brown played well for the Tribe in the second game and finished with seven kills on a .600 hitting percentage (7-1-10).

Princeton scored 11 of the first 13 points in the third game and never led by fewer than seven points thereafter en route to claiming the game and the match.

The Tribe will be in action again on Saturday when it plays Liberty and Villanova. W&M will take on the Flames at 12:30 p.m. before squaring off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.
