W&M In Third After One Round at Colonial Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG - In perfect golfing weather, William and Mary’s women’s golf team continued its strong play this season with an opening-round 305 at the Colonial Women’s Intercollegiate to stand in third. Florida Atlantic leads the 11-team event with 295, nine strokes ahead of Richmond (304, +16). Praewnapa Phol-uayporn of Florida Atlantic shot the low round of the day with 69 on the par-72 Jamestown Course at Williamsburg National Golf Club.

On a tear of her own to start the season, sophomore Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) is tied for second after shooting a 2-under 70. Her round is ties the school record for best 18-hole score, a record that was most recently matched by senior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) at the 2005 Bonnie Hoover Invitational. Sophomore Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) also shot a collegiate-best round on Monday, carding 75 to stand in a tie for ninth. Paolini is competing as an individual in this tournament.

Freshman Sarah Whitney (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) are both tied at 14th after shooting 77 in the round. Senior Kara Siford (Manassas, Va.) is one stroke back in a tie for 20th, and Oldenkamp and freshman Katie Murphy (Chesapeake, Va.) are both tied at 22nd with rounds of 79.

Freshman Avi Hockfield (Gladwyne, Pa.) shot 80 in her collegiate debut to stand tied for 28th, and senior Marissa Sprick (Windermere, Fla.) is tied for 41st after shooting 82. Junior Ellie Costello (Wilmette, Ill.) shot 85 in her first round of the year to stand tied for 51st, and freshman Megan Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) is in 55th after shooting 87 in her first collegiate round.

The Colonial Women’s Intercollegiate finishes tomorrow with one round.
