WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The No. 24-ranked William and Mary women’s soccer team earned its fourth consecutive shutout victory with a 2-0 triumph against Albany on Wednesday evening at Albert-Daly Field. With the win, the Tribe improves to 5-2, while the Great Danes fall to 3-3-2.

Junior Claire Zimmeck tallied the game-winner for the College, while senior Mary MacKenzie Grier provided the insurance goal.

Zimmeck got the Tribe on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when she fielded a corner kick from junior Meredith Brown and poked in the score from in front of the goal. It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Green and Gold’s second score came in the 63rd minute when Grier fielded a pass from junior Danielle Collins and blasted in a shot from the middle of the box.

W&M dominated the action and out-shot Albany by a 26-2 count, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal. Additionally, the College had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Individually, Zimmeck led the way with 10 shots, six coming on goal, while Grier totaled five attempts.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Walker played nearly 80 minutes without allowing a score, while freshman Grace Barnard preserved the shutout. The Tribe has blanked its last four opponents and boasts shutouts in five of its seven matches this season.

The Tribe will return to action again this weekend when it plays at No. 4 Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m.
