Tribe Set to Open CAA Play on the Road this Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary volleyball team will begin its conference slate this weekend when it squares off against UNC Wilmington and Georgia State in a pair of road contests. W&M (5-8) will take on the Seahawks (6-8) on Friday at 7 p.m., while it will play the Panthers (9-6) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

In its last outing, the College earned a 3-0 victory at Norfolk State on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Bryana Carey led the squad with a team-high 15 kills on a .344 hitting percentage, while freshman Ginny Bray totaled 12 put-aways on a .409 attack percentage.

As a team, the Tribe currently ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association in digs (17.92 dpg) and third in blocks (2.32 bpg) and assists (13.04 apg).

Individually, freshman Cassie Crumal ranks second in the league with 12.15 apg, while classmate Ginny Bray stands sixth with 1.08 bpg. Junior Jill Nowadly also ranks among the CAA’s best with 3.88 dpg.

UNCW currently owns a 6-8 mark and earned top honors at the Western Carolina Catamount Clash last weekend. Megan Nash leads the team with 2.94 kills per game, while Paula McConnell is averaging 2.58 put-aways per game. The Tribe won both contests against the Seahawks last season, registering a 3-1 triumph on the road and a 3-0 victory in Williamsburg.

The Panthers enter this weekend’s action a 9-6 mark and have won three of their last four matches. Amy Lusk leads the squad with 3.24 kills per game, while Ana Paula Ferreira also averages better than three put-aways per game (3.11 kpg). W&M and GSU split their contests last season, as each team earned a 3-2 victory on its home court.
