No. 24 Tribe Looks to Extend Winning Streak at No. 4 Virginia This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Having earned shutout victories in four consecutive contests, the 24th-ranked William and Mary women’s soccer team will look to extend its winning streak when it plays at No. 4 Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will mark the second time in a week that the Tribe (5-2) has played a team ranked among the top five nationally, as it defeated then-No. 2 North Carolina, 1-0, last Sunday.

In its last outing, the College recorded a 2-0 triumph against Albany on Tuesday evening at Albert-Daly Field. Junior Claire Zimmeck tallied the game-winner, while senior Mary MacKenzie Grier provided the insurance goal. As a team, W&M out-shot the Great Danes by a 26-2 count, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Zimmeck currently ranks tied for first in the Colonial Athletic Association with five goals, while her 10 points ranks tied for fourth. Junior goalkeeper Meghan Walker, the reigning NSCAA National Player of the Week, ranks fourth in the league with a goals against average of 0.58.

As a team, the Tribe has outscored its opponents 12-4 this season, while it holds a 92-53 shot advantage. Additionally, the Green and Gold have posted shutouts in five of its seven matches this season.

Virginia currently has a 4-1-1 overall record and is coming off a pair of 4-0 wins against No. 18 Colorado and No. 25 Arizona last week. The Cavaliers have registered five shutouts this season and have outscored their opposition 16-2. Shannon Foley leads the squad with 13 points on five goals and three assists.

The Tribe owns a 10-15-3 record against UVA in the all-time series.
