William and Mary Moves into Fifth after School-Record Round

WILLIAMSBURG - The William and Mary men’s golf team moved into fifth place at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate Saturday with a school-record 570 total strokes (6-under). Elon had all five golfers shoot under par to increase their lead over the field to 13 strokes. Mike McKenzie from Wofford was one of two players to shoot 65 in the round, using that score to move into a tie for first with Josh Gallman of South Carolina-Upstate at 136 (8-under).

Complete Second Round Results

The College’s round score of 282 (6-under) tied the school record for best 18-hole round, set in the second round at the 2004 John Dallio Memorial. The Tribe’s 36-hole score of 570 (6-under) is three shots better than the previous record, also set at the 2004 John Dallio Memorial. The second round was keyed by three player’s shooting 70 (-2). Senior Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) was one of those, matching the 70 he shot in the first round to stand tied for 11th at 4-under. His 36-hole effort of 140 is a career-low, and ties him for fourth in school history.

Junior Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) also shot 70 today, and is tied for 13th at 141 (-3). His score is tied for the 10th-best two-round effort at W&M. Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) provided the third 70, a career-best effort that moved him into a tie for 23rd at 143 (1-under). Junior Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) shot an even-par 72, and is tied for 46th at 2-over. Senior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) matched his first-round 74 and is tied for 56th at 148 (+4).

The Sea Trail Intercollegiate concludes with one round tomorrow starting at 8 AM.
