Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles on Day Two of UVA Invite

Charlottesville, Va. - The William and Mary women’s tennis team claimed all five of its singles matches on the second day of the Virginia Invitational. The College claimed four of the five wins in straight sets, while junior Barbara Zidek rallied from a set deficit to claim her Flight E bracket victory in three sets.

UNC-Greensboro’s Erica Zabkar took the opening set from Zidek, 6-1, but the third-year Tribe player rallied to claim the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3. The win was the Orland Park, Ill., native’s first of the season.

Sophomore Magdalena Bresson remained undefeated through the opening five matches of the 2007 fall campaign with her straight sets win in the Flight D Singles bracket. The Delray Beach, Fla., native disposed of Jana Kubicikova of Old Dominion, 6-2, 7-5.

In the top singles flight, No. 46-ranked Katarina Zoricic remained perfect at the event with a victory over ODU’s Charleen Haarhoff, 6-2, 7-5. The victory avenged a loss that Zoricic suffered to Haarfoff at the season-opening W&M Invitational. The Tribe All-American improved to 3-2 on the year.

Junior Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and sophomore Ragini Acharya also claimed wins for the College in singles on the second day of the Invitational. Kasztelaniec improved to 5-1 on the year with an easy 6-2, 6-0 win over UNCG’s Arielle VonStrolley in the Flight C draw. Acharya on the other hand upped her season ledger to 3-2, downing Alejandra Guerra of UNCG, 7-5, 6-0, in the Flight B Singles bracket.

The final day of the UVA Fall Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. Admission to the event held at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville is free.
