No. 24 W&M Falls at No. 4 Virginia, 1-0, in Double Overtime

Charlottesville, Va. - The 24th-ranked William and Mary women’s soccer team had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss in double overtime at No. 4 Virginia on Sunday afternoon. W&M is now 5-3 on the season, while the Cavaliers improve to 6-1-1.

Julia Falk tallied the contest’s only score in the 106th minute when she fielded a cross from Caitlin Miskel and found the back of the net. It was the first goal scored against the Tribe since the Oklahoma match on Sept. 7, as W&M had registered shutouts in four consecutive contests.

Junior goalkeeper Meghan Walker finished with seven saves, while classmate Claire Zimmeck recorded a pair of shots for the Green and Gold.

Virginia held a 23-3 advantage in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Sunday’s match marked the second time in week that the Tribe has played against a team ranked among the top five nationally. Last weekend, W&M upended then-No. 2 North Carolina, 1-0, at the VCU/Ewing Sports Invitational.

With the non-conference portion of its slate complete, the Tribe will begin CAA action next weekend when it hosts Drexel and Delaware.
