Men’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Colonial Inter-Regional

WILLIAMSBURG - The 13th-ranked William and Mary men’s cross country team put three runners in the top five Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge, but were unable to overcome No. 16 Georgetown in the team race, falling to the Hoyas 26-37. Georgetown was led by individual champion Andrew Bumbalough, and placed four runners in a row at sixth through ninth to score the upset.

2005 CAA Champion Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) finished second overall to lead the Tribe, timing 24:15.3 for eight kilometer race. Right behind him was fellow senior and two-time All-American Christo Landry (Falls Church, Va.), third in 24:19.3. Sophomore Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) placed fifth in 24:37.4, and Colin Leak (Chadds Ford, Pa.) and Harry Miller (Portland, Ore.) finished the scoring for W&M in 13th and 14th, respectively. The College’s two displacers were senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.), 20th in 25:12, and redshirt-junior David Groff (Centreville, Va.), 22nd in 25:19.

William and Mary has next weekend off, before traveling to the Pre-National Invitational, October 15 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Also on October 15, the College will host teams from around the state in the Tribe Open.
