Women’s Golf Eighth After 36 Holes at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The William and Mary women’s golf team battled back from a tough first round Sunday at the Nittany Lion Invitational, cutting 14 strokes to improve to eighth place after two rounds. Princeton leads the 14-team field by 13 strokes at the end of the first day, and also boasts the individual leader in Susannah Aboff, who carded 145 strokes (1-over) for a three-shot margin heading into the final day.

Senior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) posted rounds of 77-74 to lead the Tribe in both rounds, and will enter tomorrow’s third round in a tie for third place at seven-over. Sophomore Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) dropped eight strokes between rounds to shoot 76 in the afternoon, and moved up into a tie for 24th. Freshman Katie Murphy (Chesapeake, Va.) tied for 35th after carding 81-82, and senior Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) also closed with 82, a four-shot improvement from the morning, and stands tied for 50th. Freshman Sarah Whitney (Hingham, Mass.) finished out the Tribe’s effort on the day in a tie for 66th.

The Nittany Lion Invitational concludes tomorrow with one round.
