Cojanu, Juneau Open Play at the All-American Championships

The pair will be one of 32 teams competing in the main doubles draw at the event.

Tulsa, Okla. - The William and Mary men’s tennis program opened the Ralph Lauren Polo All-American Tennis Championships on Monday with senior Alex Cojanu and sophomore Keziel Juneau competing in the 128-player qualifying draw. The 2007 All-American Championships are being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Both Tribe players dropped their opening matches of the tournament. Cojanu, who was a No. 24-32 seed and is ranked No. 85 nationally, fell to Mississippi’s Bram Ten Berge, 7-5, 7-6 (3).

Juneau rallied from a set deficit to force a third set before falling to Tiago Espiritio Santo of Wichita State in the opening round. After dropping the opening set, 6-3, the Repentigny, Quebec, Canada native rallied to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3). Santo responded through, claiming the decisive third set, 7-5.

The W&M duo garnered spots in the qualifying bracket by earning one of 24 bids into the main doubles draw at the championships. The W&M pair is currently ranked No. 11 nationally and is 1-1 on the year. They will open the main doubles draw on Thursday, Oct. 4.
