Ian Fitzgerald Named CAA Runner of the Week

First Career Award for Former CAA Champion

RICHMOND, VA - Senior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It is the first such honor in Fitzgerald’s storied career that includes winning the 2005 CAA Championship and taking home Athlete of the Year honors in that same season.

Fitzgerald led the Tribe to a second-place finish at Saturday’s Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge, finishing second overall in 24:15.3 on the eight-kilometer course. It was his first cross country race since finishing 96th at last year’s NCAA Championships.

Fitzgerald and the 16th-ranked Tribe return to action on October 13 at the Pre-National Invitational, in Terre Haute, Indiana. On that same day, those runners who don’t make the trip out will compete in Williamsburg at the Tribe Open.
