W&M to Play at Towson and Delaware This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After a nine-day break from action, the William and Mary volleyball team will return to the court this weekend with a pair of contests at Towson and Delaware. The Tribe (7-9, 2-1) will take on the Tigers (4-15, 0-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. before squaring off against the Blue Hens on Saturday (18-2, 3-0) at 7 p.m.

Despite falling to VCU, 3-2, in its last outing, a number of players had impressive performances. Freshman Ginny Bray recorded 14 kills on .419 hitting (14-1-31) and seven total blocks, while junior Molly Bohman tallied 12 put-aways on a .435 attack percentage (12-2-23) with six total blocks. Sophomore Lauren Powell registered a team-best 15 kills.

As a team, the Tribe currently ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association with 18.02 digs per game, while it ranks fourth in assists (13.24 apg) and blocks (2.35). Additionally, the Green and Gold rank fifth with 14.35 kills per game.

Individually, freshman Cassie Crumal ranks third in the league with 12.15 apg, while Bray stands fourth with 1.12 bpg. Junior Jill Nowadly and sophomore Lindsey Pflugner both rank among the conference’s top 10 in digs with 3.85 dpg and 3.15 dpg, respectively.

Towson currently owns a 4-15 record overall and a 0-3 mark in CAA play. The Tigers have lost nine of its last 10 matches, including a pair of 0-3 losses at James Madison and George Mason last weekend. Maddie Haseltine leads the team with 3.34 kpg, while Alysha Fanning is averaging 1.10 bpg.

Ranked fifth in the East Region, Delaware enters this weekend’s action with an 18-2 record overall and a perfect 3-0 mark in league play. The Blue Hens’ only losses came against Villanova and Miami. Last weekend, UD registered a pair of 3-1 triumphs at George Mason and James Madison. Delaware leads the CAA in team hitting percentage (.257), opponent hitting percentage (.137), kills (16.06 kpg), assists (14.42 apg) and service aces (2.30). Colleen Walsh leads the league with 4.49 kpg, while Megan Welch is averaging a CAA-best 12.72 apg.
