Tribe Blanks Towson, 3-0

TOWSON, Md. - The William and Mary volleyball team improved its conference record to 3-1 with a 3-0 (32-30, 30-17, 30-20) victory at Towson on Friday evening.

Freshman Erin Skipper led W&M (8-9, 3-1) with a team-high 11 kills on .423 hitting (11-0-26), while junior Molly Bohman recorded nine put-aways on a .444 attack percentage (9-1-18). Sophomore Lauren Powell and junior Abbi Owens also came up big with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Sophomore Kim Mount dished out a match-high 43 assists, and junior Jill Nowadly provided a match-high 18 digs. Freshman Ginny Bray added six total blocks.

The opening game was tightly contested the entire way, as the teams found themselves tied on 17 occasions and neither team was able to build more than a three-point lead. The Tigers (4-16, 0-4) took its biggest advantage at 13-10, while the Green and Gold held a two-point lead on multiple occasions. With the score knotted at 30-30, however, the College finished off the initial game with kills by Owens and Powell. Mount played particularly well in the frame, totaling 16 assists.

Unlike the first set, the Tribe held a commanding lead for much of the second game. While W&M led by just two, 10-8, it utilized an 8-3 run to build an 18-11 cushion. Although TU narrowed the margin to five, 19-14, the Tribe rattled off a 10-1 run en route to claiming the game. The College hit .417 (16-1-36) as a team in the set.

As was the case in the third game, the Tribe controlled much of the final set. Leading by two, 9-7, the Green and Gold scored eight of the next 11 points to open up an 18-10 lead. Towson was unable to get closer than six points the rest of the way, as W&M sealed the game and the match.

The Tribe will be in action again when it plays at Delaware on Saturday at 7 p.m.
