Tribe Defeats Hofstra, 2-0, to Remain Unbeaten in CAA Action

Zimmeck scores both goals

Hempstead, N.Y. - Junior Claire Zimmeck scored a pair of goals, as the William and Mary women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 2-0 triumph at Hofstra on Friday evening. With the victory, W&M improves to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in CAA action, while the Pride falls to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Zimmeck tallied both goals during less than a three-minute span in the second half. She recorded the game-winner in the 53rd minute when she ran down a loose ball and knocked a shot from six yards out that hit the underside of the crossbar and went across the line. Her second goal of the evening came just 2:29 later when sophomore Krissy Vornadore stole a Hofstra throw-in and found Zimmeck on a breakaway. Zimmeck blasted a shot from the top of the box that found the lower left corner.

Zimmeck now has a team-high nine goals on the season, all of which have come in the last nine contests. Additionally, she leads the team and the conference with six game-winners.

W&M out-shot the Pride, 10-8, and had a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Zimmeck led the College with five attempts, while senior Mary MacKenzie Grier totaled two.

Junior Meghan Walker posted her fifth shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average to 0.54. As a team, the Tribe has shutout seven of its 11 opponents this season.

The Tribe will return to action again when it plays at Northeastern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
