Tribe Set to Host Georgia State and UNC Wilmington This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Currently tied for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, the William and Mary volleyball team will host Georgia State and UNC Wilmington in a pair of conference matchups this weekend. The Tribe (9-9, 4-1) will square off against the Panthers (12-9, 2-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. before playing the Seahawks (7-13, 1-4) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Last weekend, the Tribe earned a pair of victories at Towson and Delaware to move into a tie for first place in the CAA standings. Freshman Erin Skipper played well for the College and averaged 3.88 kills per game, 2.62 digs per game and 0.50 blocks per game en route to earning CAA Rookie of the Week honors. Junior Molly Bohman also played well and averaged 3.25 kpg on a .339 hitting percentage, while classmate Jill Nowadly registered 6.25 dpg. Junior Kim Mount also played an important role in the victories, providing 12.38 assists per game.
As a team, W&M currently ranks second in the CAA with 18.63 digs per game, while it is fifth in kills (14.46 kpg), assists (13.27) and blocks (2.33 bpg).
Individually, Mount ranks second in the league with 12.39 apg, while freshman Ginny Bray is fifth with 1.12 bpg. Nowadly ranks seventh with 4.13 dpg, and Skipper is ninth with 3.37 kpg.
Georgia State enters this weekend’s action with a 12-9 record overall and a 2-3 mark in CAA play. Last weekend, the Panthers played just one contest and earned a 3-0 victory against UNC Wilmington. Amy Lusk and Rachel Boryc were key contributors in the win against the Seahawks, as each tallied 12 kills. Ana Paula Ferreira leads the team with 3.32 kpg, while Jocelyn Waldern ranks fourth in the conference with 1.14 bpg. W&M owns a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last two meetings against Georgia State. Earlier this season, the Tribe earned a 3-1 triumph in Atlanta, as sophomore Lauern Powell led the Green and Gold with a team-high 15 kills on .545 hitting.
UNC Wilmington has lost five of its last six contests and currently has a 7-13 record overall and a 1-4 mark in league action. Megan Nash leads the team with 2.93 kpg, while Paula McConnell is averaging 2.67 kpg. W&M has dominated the all-time series with the Seahawks, 41-1. Earlier this season, the Tribe earned a 3-0 win at UNCW. Mount led the Tribe with 53 assists in the victory, nearly equaling the school record for assists in a three-game match (56). Skipper totaled a team-high 16 kills on .333 hitting, while Bray finished with 15 put-aways on a .296 hitting percentage.
