Women's Swimming Falls in Opener, 120-178

Katie Radloff Wins Three, Sets Pool Record

WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary's women's swimming and diving team was unable to overcome a keyed-up and hungry Towson squad today in the season opener, falling 120-178 to the Tigers. Towson improves to 2-0 (1-0 CAA) with the win, while the Tribe opens the season at 0-1 (0-1 CAA) for the second consecutive season.

Highlighting the Tribe's individual performances was Olympic Trials-qualifier Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.), who won all three of her individual events. In the 100 back, the sophomore cruised to a pool-record time of 57.97, and moved into second-place all-time at the College in that event. In the 50 free, she swam 24.18, and timed 51.81 for victory in the 100 free. Senior captain Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) won the 200 back, easily out-pacing the field with a time of 2:07.42. With the win, David moves into sole possession of seventh-place on the College's career victories list with 38.

Also providing excitement were a pair of freshmen. Carolyn Royce (Midlothian, Va.) timed 1:07.90 to take the laurels in her debut in the 100 breaststroke, and classmate Sarah Cannon (Watkinsville, Ga.) won the 1-Meter "required list" diving event with a score of 162.38.

William and Mary will look to post two in the win column next Saturday, October 20, with a tri-meet against North Carolina State and East Carolina at ECU's home pool in Greenville, N.C.
