Men's Swimming Defeats Towson in Opener, 162-136

WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary's men's swimming and diving team won its season-opener for the third year in a row Saturday, powering past Towson University in a key conference match-up, 162-136. All three of those victories have come at the expense of the Tigers, and this afternoon's victory gives the Tribe a 6-5 advantage in the series.

Junior Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.) led the College with four victories on the afternoon, three individual and one in the 200 medley relay. On the relay, he teamed with David Mangini (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Geoff Ramsdell (Richmond, Va.), and Nick Duda (Vienna, Va.) to win in a time of 1:36.84. Brisson also swept both breaststroke events, timing 1:00.43 in the 100 breast and 2:11.28 in the 200 breast; as well as winning the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.48. His three individual victories moves Brisson up two places to fourth all-time at the College with 32 career wins.

Duda won three events for the Tribe to open his senior season. In addition to the 200 medley relay, he tore through the water in the 50 free to win in 21.43, and teamed with Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.), Kevin Gallagher (Bridgewater, N.J.), and Michael Naccarelli (Wallingford, Pa.) to take the 200 free relay in 1:26.07. Gallagher also won three, earning individual titles in the 100 free (47.82) and 200 free (1:46.54) in addition to his spot on the 200 free relay. Junior Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.) was a two-event winner for the Green and Gold, sweeping the backstroke events. He timed 52.93 in the 100 back and 1:56.58 in the 200 back.

William and Mary will look for a couple more wins next Saturday, October 20, with a tri-meet with North Carolina State and East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
