Women’s Golf in Sixth After First Round of Spider Invitational

Katie Murphy Shoots Collegiate-Best 77

RICHMOND, VA - William and Mary’s women’s golf team opened the Spider Invitational today with three players shooting in the 70s to enter the clubhouse in sixth place, 12 strokes behind the leader. Maryland shot 301 in the round to lead the 12-team field by six strokes. The Terrapin’s Carla Wasienko, competing as an individual, shot 70 (-2) to tie for the lead with Stevy Loy of Columbia.

Complete First Round Results

Senior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) and freshman Katie Murphy (Chesapeake, Va.) tied for the team lead after shooting 77 in the round, and are tied at 11th overall. Murphy’s round was the best of her young college career thus far. Sophomore Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) is tied for 23rd after shooting 79, and senior Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) is tied for 29th after shooting 80. Freshman Sarah Whitney (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) (competing as an individual) are tied for 41st after shooting 82 (+10) in the round.

The Spider Invitational concludes with one round tomorrow morning.
