W&M to Host Towson and George Mason This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After four consecutive road contests, the William and Mary women’s soccer team will return home for a pair of matches against Towson and George Mason this weekend. The Tribe (9-4-1, 4-1-1) will take on the Tigers (8-4-1, 2-3-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. before squaring off against the Patriots (7-6, 3-3) on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Last weekend, the College split a pair of matches, earning a 1-0 triumph at Virginia Commonwealth University and falling at James Madison, 1-0. Senior Emily Kittleson provided the game-winner against the Rams, while sophomore Sarah Quinlan had the assist. Junior goalkeeper Meghan Walker recorded six saves and earned her seventh shutout of the season in the win.

W&M is 8-2-1 in its last 11 contests and has outscored its opponents by a 20-7 count this season. Additionally, the Green and Gold have out-shot the opposition, 203-129, with an 89-51 advantage in shots on goal.

Individually, junior Claire Zimmeck leads the conference in goals (nine), game-winning goals (six) and shots (56). Additionally, the Fairfax, Va., native ranks third in points (18). Walker is tops in the league with a 0.49 goals against average, while junior Meredith Brown is tied for seventh with four assists.

Towson enters this weekend’s action with an 8-4-1 record overall and a 2-3-1 mark in CAA action. Last weekend, the Tigers earned a 1-1 draw against Drexel and a 1-0 win versus Delaware. Kaitlyn Zamroz leads the team with 17 points on eight goals and an assist, while Erica Marshall has 11 points on four goals and three assists. The Tribe controls the all-time series, 3-0-2, and earned a 2-0 win at Towson last season.

George Mason has won two of its last three contests and is currently 7-6 overall and 3-3 in league play. Last weekend, the Patriots lost to Delaware, 3-2, and defeated Drexel, 4-0. L. J. Williams leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists, while Rachel Wiggins has eight points on three goals and a pair of assists. W&M controls the all-time series, 18-11-4, and registered a 3-2 victory last season in Fairfax, Va.
