Tribe Falls in Overtime to Towson

Towson, Md. - The William and Mary men’s soccer team dropped a tough, 1-0, overtime decision to regionally-ranked Towson on Friday afternoon. Pat Healey headed home the game-winner as time expired in the first extra session to give the Tigers the slim victory. The Tribe fell to 6-6-2 overall and 3-2 in the CAA, while Towson improved to 7-4-1 on the year and 4-1 in league play.

Towson entered the game ranked No. 8 in the South Atlantic Region according to the NSCAA, while the Tribe was No. 10 in the region. The College outshot Towson, 13-12, on the afternoon, but did not place a shot on goal. After the Tigers held a slim, 6-4, advantage in the first half, W&M outshot the Towson, 8-4, in the second 45 minutes. The Tigers capitalized on its second shot on goal of the overtime period.

Three of the Tribe’s last four matches have gone to overtime. The Tribe opened the stretch with a 2-1 win over Northeastern on Oct. 7, but has lost the last two contests to James Madison, 3-2, on Oct. 12 and its most recent setback to the Tigers.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Andrew McAdams finished with three saves in the loss. Redshirt freshman forward Alan Koger led the Tribe with three shots, while senior Ryan Sells, sophomore Price Thomas and freshman Nathaniel Baako each had a pair of shots.

The Tribe will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 21, when it travels to Fairfax, Va., to battle George Mason. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start time and will be carried live on the Internet via GameTracker. Follow the link on the schedule page at TribeAthletics.com or at GoMason.com.
