Tribe Falls at James Madison, 3-0

Harrisonburg, Va. - The William and Mary volleyball team fell at James Madison, 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-16), on Saturday night in Harrisonburg, Va. W&M is now 11-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while the Dukes improve to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in league action.

Sophomore Jillian Brown led the Tribe with a team-high 11 kills, while freshman Erin Skipper provided eight put-aways. Junior Kim Mount earned her seventh double-double of the season with 31 assists and 10 digs.

While neither team was able to pull away during the initial stage of the opening game, James Madison broke open a 10-10 tie with an 11-2 run to build a nine-point lead. The Tribe charged back by scoring six of the next seven points, but the Dukes pulled away down the stretch for the 30-21 win. Junior Abbi Owens led the College with five kills in the first set, while Mount recorded nine digs.

As was the case in the first game, the score was close early in the second set. However, JMU extended a narrow two-point lead, 11-9, into a nine-point cushion by rattling off an 11-4 run. W&M was unable to cut the margin to less than seven the rest of the way as the Dukes earned the second game. Brown was the Green and Gold’s top performer in the frame, totaling five kills on a .571 hitting percentage (5-1-7).

Although James Madison opened the third game with four consecutive points, the Tribe remained close and only trailed by four, 12-8, following a put-away by junior Molly Bohman. However, shortly thereafter the Dukes utilized an 11-3 run to break open the game and went on to claim the set and the match.

The Tribe will be in action again next weekend when it hosts Northeastern and Hofstra.
