Men’s Golf Takes Fifth at Hoya Invitational

BEALLSVILLE, MD - William and Mary’s men’s golf team finished fifth today at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational, coming from five shots behind the host school entering the morning’s round to beat the Hoyas by a single stroke. DePaul won the 12-team event by four strokes, posting the only sub-par score at 2-under. Greg Doherty for DePaul and Hunter Townsend from Richmond tied for medalist honors at 209 (-4)

Junior Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) was the Tribe’s top golfer at the 54-hole event, posting rounds of 73-72-76 to finish tied for 19th. Classmate Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) was one stroke behind him in a tie for 22nd after steady improvement throughout the tournament, carding 75-74-73. Senior Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) tied for 28th with a total of 225 after opening with rounds of 73-74 on Monday. Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) also opened with 73, and closed with 74 on Tuesday to finish tied for 32nd with 226 (+13). Senior Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) rounded out the team’s effort in a tie for 55th.

W&M has a quick turnaround for its next tournament, competing at The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, North Carolina this weekend, October 27-28.
