Tribe Set to Host Northeastern and Hofstra This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary volleyball team will play a pair of home matches this weekend when it hosts Northeastern and Hofstra at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe (11-11, 6-3) will play the Huskies (13-12, 5-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. before squaring off against the Pride (13-9, 5-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

While the College fell in both its contests last weekend, it is currently second in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 6-3 mark and is just one game out of first place. However, four teams, including NU and HU, are just a half game behind W&M with a 5-3 record.

As a team, the Tribe currently ranks second in the CAA with 18.46 dpg, while it is fourth in blocks (2.35 bpg). Additionally, the Green and Gold rank fifth in kills (14.42 kpg) and assists (13.38 apg).

Individually, junior Kim Mount ranks third in the league with 12.34 apg, while freshman Ginny Bray and junior Molly Bohman stand fourth and sixth, respectively, in blocks. Junior Jill Nowadly is seventh with 4.08 dpg, and freshman Erin Skipper ranks 10th with 3.40 kpg.

Northeastern enters this weekend’s action with a 13-12 record overall and a 5-3 mark in CAA play. Last weekend, the Huskies played just one contest, falling at Hofstra, 3-2. Kira Batura and Lauren DeTurk led the team with 14 kills apiece, while Britney Brown provided 13 put-aways. DeTurk leads the team with 3.60 kpg, and Batura is averaging a team-best 4.24 dpg. The Tribe and Northeastern have each won four matches apiece in the all-time series.

Hofstra has won four of its last five contests and currently owns a 13-9 record overall and a 5-3 mark in league action. In the Pride’s only contest last week, a 3-2 win against Northeastern, Shellane Ogoshi totaled 26 digs, 59 assists and a career-high nine kills. In doing so, she established the school record for digs with 1,547 and was selected as the CAA Player of the Week. Lauren Engle leads the team with 3.98 kpg, while Ogoshi is averaging 4.92 dpg. W&M and Hofstra have each won 12 contests in the all-time series.
