Tribe to Host Georgia State for Senior Night on Friday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Having won its last three contests, the William and Mary women’s soccer team will look to extend its winning streak when it squares off against Georgia State and UNC Wilmington this weekend. The Tribe (11-4-1, 6-1-1) will host the Panthers (8-7, 3-5) for Senior Night on Friday at 7 p.m. before playing at UNCW (8-6-1, 4-4) on Sunday at 2 p.m. W&M is currently tied for first in the conference standings.

Friday’s contest will mark the final home contest for six W&M seniors: Brittany Bode, Amanda Brodeur, Mary MacKenzie Grier, Emily Kittleson, Donna Mataya and Anne Sprinkel. As a class, the seniors have compiled an impressive 46-16-18 record overall and a 26-6-7 mark in conference play. Along the way, they have earned a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and a number of impressive victories – highlighted by the 1-0 triumph against the defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels earlier this season.

Last weekend, the College earned a pair of triumphs, defeating Towson, 4-1, and George Mason, 2-0. Junior Claire Zimmeck led the Tribe by scoring five of the team’s six goals. After the impressive set of performances, she was selected as the National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer. Additionally, she was tabbed to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and garnered Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honors.

W&M is 10-2-1 in its last 13 contests and has outscored the opposition, 26-8, this season. Additionally, the Tribe has out-shot its opponents, 235-139, with a 109-54 advantage in shots on goal.

Individually, Zimmeck leads the team and the conference in nearly every offensive category: goals (14), game-winning goals (8), goals per game (0.88), points (28), points per game (1.75), shots (65) and shots per game (4.07). Her goals per game average ranks eighth nationally, while her points per game average ranks 24th. Junior goalkeeper Meghan Walker leads the league with a 0.49 goals against average, a figure that ranks 10th nationally.

Georgia State enters this weekend’s action with an 8-7 record overall and a 3-5 mark in CAA action. Last weekend, the Panthers split a pair of contests, earning a 2-0 win at Drexel and falling, 3-4, at Delaware. Nathalie Carter leads the team with 20 points on nine goals and two assists, while Kay Harbrueger has 18 points on six goals and six assists. W&M and GSU have met just twice before, with the Tribe earning victories in both matchups.

UNC Wilmington is currently 8-6-1 overall and 4-4 in league play. After winning three consecutive contests in early October, the Seahawks have dropped two of their last three matches. Last weekend, UNCW defeated Delaware, 3-2, and fell at Drexel, 0-2. Kelly Renkin leads the team with 20 points on nine goals and a pair of assists. The Tribe has never lost to UNCW and controls the all-time series, 14-0.
